RULES & CONDITIONS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS


All participants must:

  • Be fit and able to cope with the demands of the event.
  • Accept responsibility for themselves and their belongings during the event.
  • Be prepared to abide by the rules and safety regulations associated with the event.
  • Follow all directions given by event officials.
  • Be ready for a whole load of adventure!
  • Be of 13 years of age or older.
  • All Stage 2 (Canoe) participants must be able to swim.


SAFETY

Safety is a key priority.

  • Roads and waterways used will not be closed to traffic.
  • Participants must ride and kayak in a safe, responsible and courteous manner during the event and use common sense at all times.
  • Participants must abide by the Queensland Road Rules and to follow directions given by The Organisers and Queensland Police. Participants must not ride more than 2 abreast on public roads.


IMPORTANT EVENT RULES

Some important event rules include:

  • You must complete the course as outlined in the course information.
  • There MUST never be more that 20 meters between the first team member of a Pair and the last team member and you must be able to communicate verbally with each team member at all times.
  • At transition, both team members in the Pairs Category must check in and out.
  • At transition, the incoming Relay Team member must check in before the next team member checks out.
  • Obey all directions given by race officials on the day.
  • Compulsory equipment must be carried at ALL times.


The use of an eBike is allowed, but the participant/team will be ineligible for a Podium position and the competitor/team must have (eBike) attached to their registration name.


Penalties or Disqualification will apply for non-compliance with these rules. This is by no means an exhaustive list and we recommend that you read the full event rules in detail before the event.


PHOTOGRAPHS & VIDEO

Photographers and Media will be on the course taking photos of the event. Pictures will be able to be downloaded from the ZACH MACH Mackay Adventure Challenge Facebook Page. Spectators are more than welcome to take photos. The Participant consents to the use of these images for promotional purposes. All participants are required to agree to the ‘Release and Indemnity Waiver’ before before online registration.


REGISTRATION

Registration pickup will be available from the Wednesday prior to the event at a location TBC.

Each team must sign-in on the morning of the event. Registration is open at the Start Line for a 30 minute period before the start, from 7am to 7:30am.

If you have registered for support, you will need to make contact with the support personnel to ensure that your equipment if labeled correctly. All equipment, including bikes, helmets, canoes, paddles and life jackets will need to be dropped off prior to the event briefing.


After registration the remaining time is spent preparing and warming up. A word of advice… “Know the course and transition logistics well!!…”


EVENT BRIEFING

  • A Safety & Event Briefing will occur before the event start. All team members MUST attend this briefing as it cover important information including:
  • Changes to the course
  • All the things you need to know to stay safe throughout the event.
  • Event specific information


The race will start immediately when the Event Briefing is finished.

RACE HQ

The Race HQ will be located at the Pinnacle Hotel which not only facilitates a fantastic spectacle for spectators, but a convenient central transition zone for Competitors. The Event will begin with Competitors in Stage 1 riding on Mountain Bikes from the "Pub Hub" and returning back to the "Hub". Competitors will begin the Stage 3 Trail run down Cattle Creek via Gargett before returning back to the Hub where they transition to their Road Bikes (or tag another team member) for the Final Stage. TRANSITION AREAS

A Transition Area is where you move from one Stage to another (ie Mountain Biking to Canoe/Kayak etc).
There are 3 transition areas on the course, in 2 different locations. Transition Areas are managed by volunteers. Transition areas have communication with Event Hub. If your team is in need of assistance or first aid, please make your way to the nearest Transition Area.

When you arrive at Transition, it is important that solo competitors and teams Check In & Out. Ensure that you give your details to officials when you arrive, and before you leave. To assist officials, tell them your team number and name as you approach the table.

Although every effort is made to avoid delays, it is possible you may have to queue at a transition area. Take this in your stride and be patient. Event officials are working hard to ensure you are on your way as quickly as possible.


















PROGRESSIVE CLOSING TIMES

Progressive closing times for locations along the event route will be noted. If the Participant falls behind these closing times they shall either board the Support Vehicle for transportation further along the route or hand over their ID and continue on alone and unsupported (essentially not as an event participant).

STAGE INFORMATION


STAGE 1 MOUNTAIN BIKE
  • COURSE

The ZACH MACH starts with a challenging Mountain Bike Stage consisting of 2 parts. After departing ZACH MACH HQ at Pinnacle Hotel, competitors will be faced with a sharp, steep but short climb of MTB 1a ascending to Teemburra Dam, before the beginning of Stage 2 Kayak.

STRAVA ROUTE

MTB Stage 1b then continues through single track and fireroads across private property before descending through Mia Mia State Forest on the way back to Adventure HQ at Pinnacle.

Limited Maps may be uploaded at a later stage due to the trails traversing private property and council/main roads approval. The trails crossing Private Property is forbidden outside of the ZACH MACH.

















  • EQUIPMENT

All Solo, Pair and Stage 1 Relay Team participants will require a mountain bike in working condition and an Australian Standard Bike Helmet in good condition. Each participant is required to carry a spare tube, inflation device and adequate hydration and nutrition.


Footwear will need to be able to cope with rough, rocky terrain, steep up- and downhills, as well as the possibility of wet, slippery and muddy trails. We recommend shoes that provide comfort, stability and protection as well as offering grip and traction no matter what conditions you race in. Participants must wear covered footwear.


  • CAN I CYCLE THE MOUNTAIN BIKE STAGE OUTSIDE OF THE EVENT?

NO. You will not be able to cycle the complete stage as the middle 3rd is on Private Property. We are very fortunate to have exclusive access to a number of Private Properties such as Teemburra Grazing Pty Ltd & land managed by SunWater.  Let’s continue to show our appreciation and respect towards the families that live on and work this land by only accessing during the designated event times. It is also for your safety. Trespassing is an offence and is not welcome in the ZACH MACH Community. Police will be involved and bans from ZACH MACH imposed.

You can ride from Pinnacle to Teemburra Dam whenever you want and can also ride from Pinnacle to Captains Crossing to see where the MTB Stage will come out.


  • CAN I USE A ROAD BIKE ON THE MTB STAGE?

NO. ​Definitely not. Not even on Part A to the Dam.


CAN I USE AN EBIKE?

  • The use of an eBike is allowed, but the participant/team will be ineligible for a Podium position and the competitor/team must have (eBike) attached to their registration name.


STAGE 2 CANOE/KAYAK


  • COURSE

Competitors will race in deep still water in a loop across Teemburra Dam. 
















  • EQUIPMENT

All Solo, Pair and Stages 2 Relay Team participants will require a life jacket and an Australian Standard Bike Helmet in good condition. Each participant is required to carry adequate hydration and nutrition. Participants must provide their own watercraft (canoe/kayak) or hire one when registering.

  • KAYAK DROP-OFF/PICKUP

The Stage 2 Kayak Course starts and finished at the Teemburra Dam Boatramp. This is where the MTB rider will ride to, before tagging or jumping into their kayak to complete the stage before the MTB Stage continues.  Drop-Off Open from 6am. Follow the Signs.


  • CAN I USE A FIBREGLASS KAYAK WITH A KEEL/RUDDER?

Sure can! Stage 2 will be on Teemburra Dam


STAGE 3 TRAIL RUN
  • COURSE

Competitors will run through cane paddocks and downstream Cattle Creek as they negotiate mud, sand, stones to Gargett and back along the Owens Creek Loop Road to the Pinnacle PUB HUB.
















  • EQUIPMENT

All participants are required to suitable covered shoes. Each participant is required to carry adequate hydration and nutrition. There will be a drink station at the 5k mark.

Footwear will need to be able to cope with rough, rocky terrain, steep up- and downhills, as well as the possibility of wet, slippery and muddy trails. We recommend shoes that provide comfort, stability and protection as well as offering grip and traction no matter what conditions you race in.


  • CAN I PRACTICE THE TRAIL RUN OUTSIDE OF THE EVENT?

You will not be able to run the complete Trail Run it is also situated on a number of private properties. Once again, unauthorized access to the property may jeopardize the future of the event. ​


STAGE 4 ROAD CYCLE
  • COURSE

Competitors will depart ZACH MACH HQ at Pinnacle and head along Pinnacle Septimus Road. At Gargett-Mia Mia Road riders will turn left, cross the bridge return back past the intersection until the next turn-around near Septimus before heading back to the Pub Hub.

All participants will require a bike in working condition and an Australian Standard Bike Helmet in good condition. Each participant is required to carry a spare tube, inflation device and adequate hydration and nutrition.

There could be short unsealed sections on the Road Cycle stage. Tyres must be durable enough to withstand country roads.
Participants must wear covered footwear.


CAN I USE AN EBIKE?

  • The use of an eBike is allowed, but the participant/team will be ineligible for a Podium position and the competitor/team must have (eBike) attached to their registration name.


RACE WEAR

Comfortable race wear that will suit race conditions is essential. Sun Safe and highly visible recommended.

Course opens 8am. Departing Event Hub to the Teemburra Dam boat ramp (8.6k. Approx. 20mins to 45mins). Close section 9:00am

Stage 2 KAYAK(still water)
Course opens 8:20am. Depart Teemburra Dam boat ramp to Middle Creek return. (8k. Approx. 40min to 1hr30min). Close stage 11:00am

Stage 1b MTB (2nd half)
Course opens 9:00am. Depart Teemburra Dam boat ramp to Event Hub via Mia Mia state forest. (20k. Approx. 50min-2hrs). Close stage 1pm

Stage 3 TRAIL RUN
Course opens 9:30am. Depart Event Hub to Gargett via Cattle Creek return. (12k. Approx. 1hr-1:45hrs). Close stage 3pm

Stage 4 ROAD CYCLE
Course opens 10:30am. Depart Event Hub to Septimus return. (27k. Approx. 45mins-1hr30mins) close stage 4:30pm

Estimated finish time of first competitor: 3hrs 35mins (arrival time 11:30am – 12noon)
Estimated finish time for final competitors: 7hrs 30mins. (approx. Arrival time 4:30-5pm)
